Honey Child  Biography

Honey Child is a 6 piece band founded in Phoenix, AZ that toured relentlessly in the late 90s and early 2000s. Founded by core songwriters Heather Higgs, Dino Gisiano, and Jason Montero, the band consisted of: Higgs on vocals and percussion, Gisiano & Montero on guitars, two drummers; Greg Lisi and percussionist Joseph Frost, and a roster of bass players culminating in Steven Green.

In 1998, Honey Child was chosen as the best-unsigned band in Arizona and were featured in the book Jam Bands, North America’s Hottest Live Groups  (Dean Budnick, ECW Press). That same year, they also won the first national Band to Band Combat competition and appeared on the H.O.R.D.E. Tour.

“Watching them play, I had the same kinetic experience I had once years ago when I first saw Jefferson Airplane perform!”  said Jim Capaldi, founder of the legendary rock band Traffic, after seeing them perform one night at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip.

In 1999, The Santa Barbara Independent said, “Honey Child evades the aimless shambling wank that traditionally dooms most jam bands by employing spot-on polyrhythm, fuzzy rock guitar, prominent pop hooks, and most of all, the voluminous vocals of Heather Higgs.”

In late 2000, after successful tours of the Midwest and the East Coast, the band returned to the studio and spent 18 months crafting their most notable record, Taller, with the guidance of renowned producer Clark Rigsby.

In 2002, Get Out Magazine wrote, “You could toss a stone these days and hit a jam band, but you’d throw your arm out before you would hit one like Honey Child. The multi-ethnic group stirs up a sonic stew over which Heather Higgs struts her vocal stuff.”
